Recording to tape
Up until the last three months I’ve only recorded digitally. It’s really the only thing I know. I’m too young to have experienced the cassette era.
The results are legit - a warm and bright sound. Transparent and reflective of dynamics. It’s like the air around the microphone is what is being captured. Listening back it feels like you are in the room. Check out BARS debut track Dreamland to get an idea of what I’m talking about. I’ll make a separate post about how those sessions went down.
As of today, I’m up and running with my Tascam 388 poised to integrate it into my system and workflow. I’m really passionate about this. I think it’ll help improve the sound of the records I work on… and hey, maybe that’ll be your record!
